For me it takes about 30-60 seconds after video starts for quality (and the logo seek bar) to switch to UHD from HD in Prime Video. Basically playback starts with HD and then bumps up to UHD soon. Can you try playing the video a bit longer.
No mention of the software/device and/or TV model? They all make a difference. I have a 3 yr old cheap-ass TCL TV using an Nvidia Shield Pro, Prime works correctly but Youtube HDR is completely broke.
List your variables.
Is your TV supports 4K videos? And what about Netflix.. same issue?
Could your internet speed be an issue? Is the video downgrading due to lack of data transfer speed?
Its usually down to bandwidth. If your internet connection is not fast enough it will only stream in HD. If it is fast enough it will switch after a minute or so.
Same thing is happening to me. The same Skyworth Android tv that always played 4K HDR just fine now only plays 1080p HDR. Bandwidth is perfectly fine. On my other TV, my Chromecast with Google TV stills plays 4k with no problem whatsoever.
FYI, "HD" means 1080p here.
Usually it takes up to 60 seconds to get the resolution to UHD.
I have seen few other users too across multiple Android TVs complaining about the same after recent update. I personally have no issue happening, did you check your network speed and also wait for some time and check resolution again as it could take sometimes a min to reach the actual resolution.
You need to go to settings and then change the data usage preference.
People, it's not a bandwidth issue. 4k is off the table on some TVs. The best example is the fact that the 4k icon, which the app shows above each episode's synopsis (along with HDR, 5.1 and age rating), has disappeared.
On Google TV, some primevideos stay on HD while it's suppose to play 1080pHD. Some videos which suppose to play 1080p with HDR stays on HD only. While Batman (2022) stays on HD even if it shows UHD, HDR. Tomorrow war/the boys plays proper UHD HDR. I believe there might be some streaming issue from primevideo for some videos. I didn't ever had these issues on Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar. . I have a 4k HDR, Dolby Vision TV & 100mbps connection.
My workaround right now on PC is to just download the video before watching. Im not sure if other platforms have the download option
