Any tips for what to look for in a new 2nd hand tv to work with my Chromecast with Google TV?

TV's are so cheap these days why try and go used. Not knowing what features you want and what size and what you budget, I don't know what someone could suggest.

The only prerequisite is an open HDMI port.

Any TV with an HDMI port will do. Does not have to be a smart tv.

Depends how much you want to spend. Best overall TV's for multiple ranges of features LG OLED C class, Best picture, Sony OLED model like the a80j/a90j, good picture but shit HDMI 2.1 support sony x950h, x900f, etc in this class.

You want sub $1000 msrp class you're talking about budget TVs with sacrifices

HDMI with CEC. This way when you turn on the CCwGTV, it will turn the TV on at the same time.
