Onn. Streaming Box and Custom DNS

by YodasThirdCousin

Does anyone know if the Walmart onn. streaming box supports a custom DNS from Unlocator?

Backstory: I'm trying to find a streaming box that I can use solely to get around ESPN+ geolocation blocking for NHL games. I have subscribed to Unlocator, and it actually works on my AppleTV4K, but I swear it screws up the connection on my other streaming apps. And switching the DNS every time I want to watch hockey games is not really an option.

I have an Amazon Fire stick, but per Unlocator's website, the Fire Stick will ignore IPv4 DNS settings in favor of IPv6, which breaks Unlocator.

My SmartTV is an LG OLED, which for some reason doesn't have the ESPN+ app, so there's no help there.

Roku and Chromecast both don't support custom DNS settings, so I can't use them either.

So I'm left with the onn. Walmart streaming box, or one of the more expensive options like another AppleTV or a NVidia Shield. So does anyone know if the onn. box will let me add custom DNS to get around NHL blackouts?

For the Onn 4K the only way you can set a custom DNS is changing your IP settings to static and then you’re prompted to enter a DNS address. Chromecast should have the same IP settings option in the WiFi menu.

You can try Smart DNS Proxy. You can set certain programs to certain regions. I think they might have a trial, not sure. I've been using them for 2 years with no problem. Aff link below: And yes, you need to set static IP to set custom dns.
