Mecool KM2 issues Rebooting and getting stuck on logo

by Babalugat

I am having issues with a Mecool KM2 rebooting. I have tried factory resetting a few times, but that didn't help.

It usually (possibly only) happens when I am watching something. It reboots and sometimes then gets stuck on the boot logo animation, constantly looping.
I think I have narrowed it down as of an hour ago, to when I watch anything of higher quality than 720p, I have played one episode of The Flash at 720p on Stremio, and I am streaming another episode now and it hasn't yet rebooted.

When I was using CinemHD it rebooted all of the time, I don't know if all the streams were 1080p and higher etc.

Is there anything that would be causing it to reboot on higher quality streams?

Power supplies are usually the weak link.

Using a usb SD card caused issue for me

For the KM2, there is metal heat sink plate fastened to the bottom of the case.

The way that this metal plate is held to the bottom of the case is by melting three plastic posts to hold the plate in place.

Very often, the plastic posts are melted poorly, leaving a big blob of melted plastic at a level higher than the metal heat sink plate, so that when the case cover is installed, the heat sink plate doesn't make good contact with the thermal transfer pad that is installed over the shielding covering the SoC.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to open the case of the KM2 in order to check the plate. There are three screws and many clips that are difficult to work apart without damaging the case.

But if the box is rebooting under workload stress, perhaps there is a cooling issue.
