Stream from harddrive

by Superhanc41

Hi,

I have a hard drive full of films, currently using my laptop hooked up to the TV through HDMI. What would be the best Android device to connect my hard drive to and stream to my tv, using HDMI?

Nvidia Shield might be too powerful for this task, as this would be its only use. On the other hand, the built-in Plex server is great for this. Is the Xiaomi a good alternative?

4k not necessary, I just want a smooth 1080p experience.

Thanks.

you obviously want an Nvidia Shield if you know so much about it.

You could use either Google's Chromecast w/GoogleTV or the ONN boxes from Walmart. Both will work with a dongle, so you can easily plug in a thumb drive or external hard drive and you'll be able to access them directly. Google's device uses USB C and the 4K ONN box uses micro-USB. ETA Prime (on YouTube) has some videos demonstrating the use of dongles on both those devices.

I'd stick with the Plex option. As someone that has a Plex server, it's handy to have when you have multiple TVs or devices in the home, or when you want to watch something, when you're not at home.
