Hi all,
I have a Tivo Stream 4K (android 9) and Verizon Stream (2020) box (android 10)- both of which I notice output a constant dolby encoded 5.1 stream to my receiver (Sony STR-DN1080). This is great for most content - however, for YouTube (not YouTube TV), plain youtube streaming, stereo content is output with 5.1 encoding, and my receiver doesn't let me use Pro Logic to simulate surround.
In the past, my Fire TV sticks have switched to PCM 2.0 output automatically when watching youtube, and back to Dolby when it matches the content. Is there any setting that can emulate this behavior, so I can get stereo only from youtube?
Sidenote: the playback speed controls are no where to be found on either of the two android tvs, which is quite frustrating.
What are you taking about exactly?
Youtube added Dolby Digital Plus support at the end of 2021 but it applies only to streams uploded after that implementation with a Dolby stream, BUT if you upload a video with plain stereo it won't be converted to that format, however, old videos that were uploaded with an AAC-LC 5.1 stream are apparently being converted by the servers to DD+ automatically.
Google also added an option in the OSD to switch between DD+ to PCM, I actually made a post about in this subreddit which seems to be buggy at the moment I made the test.
Can you show an example of what video is playing in DD?
