Any Android box that allows us to watch Netflix, Prime etc in 4K SDR?

okay so I don’t know how to put this in words so I hope someone can understand me lmao.

I just bought Xbox series s and when I turn off the HDR I can watch the 4K stuffs on Netflix, Prime and Apple TV+ in 4K SDR. The hdr on my tv is terrible and when I turn it off on my mi box s, it still play the 4K hdr files. So I’m wondering, is there any android tv box that can do what the Xbox did? Like when I turn off hdr, it will change the 4K hdr files to 4K sdr?

My Chromecast with Google TV has the option to toggle/force DV/HDR/SDR, so when you set HDR, Netflix stops showing titles in DV and streams in HDR10. And only in "4K Ultra HD" when you set it to SDR. The option shouldn't "convert" local files to SDR but streaming services provide you the right fit, if that's all you ask for.

It's going to be pretty hit or miss. I doubt any do a great job of converting HDR into SDR so you could end up with a very washed out looking image, but it should play.

Your better off adjusting your HDR picture settings on the TV and playing the content as originally intended as far down the chain as possible. There are solutions to re-map the colors from HDR into SDR, like madVR and PlexMediaServer can do it now, but regular devices don't on their own.

The expectation is your Android Box would know what the TV supports and tell Netflix "Hey I can do 4k but not HDR." And Netflix would do it's best to provide a matching format. In your case the TV is telling the box it can do 4k and HDR, but you don't like how it works. I know on my Samsung TV I can force resolutions/color space, but only on HDMI ports and not the internal apps.
