Any Updates For Xiaomi Mi Box S?

by ZebastianUniverse

We bought our Xiaomi Mi Box S a few months ago and I was disappointed cause a month later, The Mi Stick 4K was announced and it has a newer version of Android TV which is Android TV 11 and has support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. But it was fine, it's just I feel like Xiaomi doesn't care about the 2018 Mi Box S anymore even tho the Mi Box S is still on Xiaomi's Website in the TV section. The Xiaomi Mi Box S is still running on Android TV 9 originally running Android TV 8.1.

Mi Box S last got an update on October 2021 (along with the 5 year old Mi Box 3), so I wouldn't rule out a future update yet.

But it's one of a few that has been updated constantly unlike other brands, I bet they are preparing an update for 11 or even 12, so you'll get among other features:

- A game mode I still don't know what it does.

- Auto frame rate support and even VRR support for TVs with HDMI 2.1.

- A 4K UI

- Font scaling support

Xiaomi is at the mercy of AMLogic, because if AMLogic doesn't release the SDK for the S905X chipset to have Android 11 installed, then Xiaomi will never upgrade the firmware to a newer version. Because the SDK itself also has IP-licensed code in it, manufacturers may need to pay AMLogic another fee to recieve the new SDK, which that fee is usually bundled in the purchase price of the chipsets, so if it is a separate extra fee Xiaomi would just move on to new hardware like any other manufacturer.
