Onn Android TV box - wasn't there a second more capable option?

by awcla14

TL;DR thought I would get the upgraded version of the Onn android TV, can't find that unit now. What should I get instead?

I have two of the $20 units, one in my bed room on a projector and one in my office on a 27 wide screen. Really like them, like the pure android TV experience, and it performs well for the price. I got a OTG for the one in the office so we could use a wired controller for steam link, the one in the bed is just the box. I have a Vizio M series in the living room with a 2.1 all in one soundbar and I am getting sick of the the OS on it, keeps getting slower and lacks a few services we want (showtime). Had I known better I would have bought and android TV to begin with.

So I thought since by the time you buy the box and a OTG you spend about the same money, I will just get the upgraded onn box and use that in the living room. Well, that upgraded box isn't listed anymore; or did I imagine the whole thing?

So what would be a comparable alternative?

What upgraded ONN box? I'm only aware of 2 versions - the 4k box and the HD dongle. Not saying there isn't something new, just that I've never heard of it.

I've got both the CCWGTV and the 4k ONN box. I greatly prefer the ONN. I've got a dongle on the CCWGTV but not on the ONN.

Like you, I've also got a Vizio TV (and soundbar). If I could just buy a cheap "dumb" TV I would. Manufacturers seem to orphan their tech in 2 years (or less). Plus, my Vizio remote sucks whereas the ONN remote is awesome. The only positive thing I have to say about the Vizio remote is that somehow it also controls the ONN box. I'd love to know how that works, but I'm too lazy to research it.

I only remember the one that is $20 now and the cheaper FHD on that is $15.

There are only two listed here https://www.androidtv-guide.com/streaming-gaming/

Ematic 4K is a great choice. But it's $79. at Walmart a bit more than the $20. for ONN

My Onn has Showtime available in the Play Store. I was able to install it but since I don't subscribe I took it back off.

Wish someone would just make something like the Onn Android tv but with no ads on it and only had 3 sections. Recent few apps (opened within past few weeks), all apps, and store link. Make it $100 as long as no ads exist.
