How do I put video files into my sister's Chromecast?

by Archolm

What's the best course for me to be able to "log into" my sister's Chromecast with Google TV and put files onto its connected USB drive?

edit: This is on the same network by the way.

Don't listen to anybody else. Just enable SMB sharing in your PC's videos folder, then use Nova or Kodi on your CCwGT to browse to it on the same network and play the videos directly from your PC. No need to transfer anything to the USB storage. That's how most of us do it here.

The Send Files to TV app will work if you are on the same wifi network. If you are looking to put a bunch of videos I would look into setting up a Plex Media Server.

Add a NAS drive on the network and transfer files to that.

Then point her media player at the NAS drive.

Depending on your router you might also be able to attach the USB drive to the router and create a network share that way.

Otherwise, just disconnect the drive and add the files you want and reconnect it. It will be way faster than trying to transfer over the Chromecast's network connection.
