Currently I use Firefox to watch crunchyroll and other streaming services that has ads and ublock works great to remove those ads. But using a browser to watch is not convenient all the time.

I have not seen any way to block ads directly on Android TV. Maybe you can cast from your laptop, but it's not optimal.
Personally, I use Pi Hole for ad blocking in my whole house; any device that connects via wired or wireless doesn't see any ads, automatically, and it works across my Android phone, Windows workstations, Google TV, Android TV etc. It's really simple to set up and just leave it.
If you don't want to setup a pihole, you can set your Android TV device or even your router to use something like nextdns or Adguard to block ads.
uBlock is a plugin for your browser, therefore it is not possible to apply the effects of a plugin outside the browser, or the entire Android TV in this case.
Your best bet would be to look for an ad-free mod of the streaming service app you require.
I don't know the answer to your specific question, but I recommend looking into using Pi-hole (with a Raspberry Pi). I had a Raspberry Pi 3b+ laying around that I previously used for emulation and decided to install Pi-hole on it. This will block ads on your entire network, including browsers and even on some streaming apps on your Android TV.
I'm not an expert but Pi devices are very inexpensive and Pi-Hole is easy to install and get set up. I generally avoid discussing the streaming services it impacts, but there's one well known ad-supported service it works with so well that it has become my favorite (by far) and led to me canceling Netflix. If you're attempting to block ads, then I'd strongly recommend investigating Pi-hole.
What you need is AdGuard, you get thirty days of free service and you may purchase a license for it or use it with reduce features.
Download it from them direct.

I have it on. both my phone and on my Nvidia Shield (2019) Pro TV.
It does a lot more than block ads, but you will have to try it, to understand.( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
It works on your whole device, not just the browser.
They have a vpn service and it is available right now with a very deep discount; however, they have had some issues with it and they are working on it.
Yes, I do have it, and I do use it.
Can you still use a vpn?
Use an adblocking dns like Adguard, ControlD or NextDNS. No need to bother with a Pi-Hole.
