Why is there not an All4 app on Google TV?

by wandering_wanderer93

As title suggests, how come we have every other catch up/streaming service, but not the All4 app? Does anyone know if they're planning to add it eventually?

You'd have to ask the devs or the company behind All4. It's their choice. Contact them and let them know you want it. Google isn't stopping them from doing it.

The simple answer is, supporting devices needs development time, and they see no good reason to invest in that. Amazon, Samsung, etc. probably incentivized Channel 4 to support their devices, and they got what they paid for in return.

I think All4 on Freeview Play based Android TVs is a HbbTV style app which isn't the same as ones usually found on the Play Store. Similar to channel 100 which is the Freeview Play guide and Channel 555 which is the Accessible TV guide. Both of those 'channels' run what is effectively a web app.

I have found the only fix that is stable. It is blocked on purpose due to them having ties with Amazon and apple so if you install the phone apk it will just say network error.

1.Install open web browser (not my favourite but works with for channel 4)

2.Download and install TV App Repo I've left a link below but they're are many out there https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/felker-tech/tv-app-repo-android-tv/tv-app-repo-android-tv-1-1-4-playstore-release/tv-app-repo-android-tv-1-1-4-playstore-android-apk-download/

3.open TV app Repo on the android TV box and scroll down to custom shortcuts and click create a web bookmark.

4.type in https://www.channel4.com when prompted and then click generate shortcut.

5.click advanced and enter a banner URL (channel 4 icon for homescreen) I have left a link you can use below but any Google image will work just copy the image location and paste

https://assets-corporate.channel4.com/_flysystem/s3/styles/large/s3/2019-02/All4-Press-270219-1_0.jpg?itok=oMpUirEF

6.click generate shortcut and wait patiently to install the apk. It also might ask you to give TV app Repo permission to install apps, if so just find TV app Repo select it and go back to the app to install.

7.click the new channel 4 app and it will open it through open web browser. On first run I recommend pressing the back button and selecting the magnifying glass icon changing the zoom to 150% as it gets rid of most of the ads and makes it fit to screen. Also you will be asked to sign in the first time you play a show.

If done correctly you Will have a new channel 4 app that will never break again as it is linked to the website. which channel 4 can never block android devices from accessing without causing too many problems.

If scrolling is too slow press and hold the middle button and it will go into scroll mode and move a lot quicker.

If anyone needs any more help don't be afraid to contact as I also have a working UKTV apk, a BBC iPlayer app that plays in full hd and not 720p like the android TV app does, YouTube without ads that also works with built in search and Chromecast. I basically have turned my shield tv into the all in one uk streaming box without any standard apps missing

It's on my Android TV but not Chromecast with Google TV you'd think it would be on both

Because there's no All 4 app for Android TV OS.

The best you can do is cast from the phone app to your CCwGTV, or get Freeview Play (if possible)

This drives me nuts! I love my Chromecast w/google tv stick, so much quicker and intelligent than all the roku’s I had before but this one issue means I’m going to have to faff about using an old Roku at times (including watching bake off live in September!.. my wife insists this has to happen!!)

I remember all4 taking a long time to even be cast enabled and more recently even introducing live tv to anything other than the mobile app

I’m not a programmer but if it’s available on Android devices it can’t be a giant leap to repurpose it for Google TV surely?

I will try side loading it but last time I attempted it I had no joy

prospector_chief

I just use Open Browser and go to the channel 4 website.

What do you mean? I've always had an All 4 app on my TV? Part of Freeview Play
