Proud of South Africa for being first in developing this kind of Android TV box

by ZainAjam

It is very rarely that South Africa leads the charge, but I'm proud to see this Android TV box being made for and launched in the South Africa market.

This is a Netflix, Prime Video, Google certified Android TV box running Android 11 with 2gb ram and 16gb storage. It supports the AV1 video standard, and is running the latest S905Y4 chip. It also sports the new standard Android TV remote control. It has a network port and it has a micro sd card slot.

It isn't all sunshine and roses though. It isn't a S905X4 chipset, but that's ok. Doesn't look like S905X4 has been certified by streaming services now anyway. The ethernet is only 100mbps. It has 2 x USB ports but both are only USB 2.0.

Other than those 3 stumbling blocks, this is one of the best Android TV packages outside of Shield TV that I've seen to date.

That’s a broad statement to make considering all these streamers are Chinese built then rebranded to make a buck or two with mostly old spec.

This seems like a pretty abysmal spec. I don't think anyone gets to claim "leading the charge" as long as they're shooting for a target miles below the 6 year old shield TV box, but I sure wish someone would do better than it.

2G ram? S905Y4?

It''s a box, Not a stick, why not S905X4 ?

Nothing special but 16GB .

2gb ram, sad.

Memory chips are so cheap idk why they don't go for 4GB or more
