Disney+ and Google Movies app on TV sound is tinny/hollow

by nix_nexus

Hi there,

I've had my Phillips 4k Android/Google TV for over a year at this point. I thought that someone would have updated the apps to fix the issue but it hasn't, so I need some help.

Both the Google Movies & TV app and the Disney+ app have the worst audio. Everything sounds like it's coming from inside a tin can 99% of the time. But this is only when I access the apps directly from the TV itself. When I cast either app to the TV, audio is fine. If I plug in a Roku or a Chromecast, audio from those apps are fine.

It is not knowing why it doesn't work and why I can't fix it that has become the annoying part. Every other app works without a hitch. It would be fine if Disney didn't work. But the Google made app?

Please if anyone has any good suggestions to fixing this let me know.

Also I have a sound bar attached to the TV with a digital audio cable. In case anyone was wondering, the sound from the apps is garbage with or without the sound bar.

Thank you for your time.

Only thing I can think of is the apps are sending a surround sound signal to the stereo speakers on the TV. What happens when you turn off surround sound on the device?

Have you tried force quitting those apps, then clearing all data from them? Uninstalling and reinstalling might do that, but it's possible user data might stick around.

I'm not sure about Android auto built into TV's, but is there a way to reboot the Android Auto system separately? I have a Shield and I sometimes get weird audio errors. Simply turning it off and on again won't resolve it because it puts the device in a sleep state similar to when you click the power button on your phone. Not sure if you can navigate to the settings corner and select reboot when it's built into the TV.

If all else fails, a factory reset could help. At best it would help isolate if it's a problem with the current software configuration or the apps themselves. If all that fails, then it's an app issue and you should try to report the bug.
