Getting 1gb ethernet to work on my Smart TV advice please.

by firvulag359

Hey all, so I have a KD-55XE9005 and for the most part I love it. The biggest problem I have with it is that it only has a 100mb ethernet port. While this is fine for streaming content upto 4k from services such as Netflix and Disney+ it's not good enough to stream my own content via my PC.

My TV has android 9 and won't be getting the android 10 update that newer TVs have so using a third party ethernet adatper won't work.

I've been looking at solutions for this and found the following:

Android box such as an Nvidia shield but they're really expensive

Making my own box with raspberry pi 4 but again quite expensive

Buying a 4k firestick and ethernet separately and joining them together (seen videos on youtube) which seems like the cheapest option but it's both ugly and fiddly as heck.

So does anyone have any cheaper and simpler options for doing this?

Thanks in advance!

Most TV's only come with 100mb ports for some reason🤷🏾‍♂️

Wifi on 5ghz is more than capable of streaming any content. I would start by fixing your wifi issues, not looking in some cumbersome ethernet ideas. On my sony tv, i easily get 300+ mbps speed on wifi.

USB to ethernet adapters don't work on android 9?

Granted I live in a relatively low-density suburb, but I routinely get 300-400 mbps throughput with my 5GHz .ax Wi-fi network throughout my modern-construction house.

Chromecast with Google TV and this adapter. I have this set up on two TV's and it works great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085XZGVN5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hmm what do you need Gbe speed for on a tv? 100 mbps is enough for 8k streaming.

Your android tv built in apps on Sony operate in static 60fps. Just get a proper tv box with frame rate matching and resolution switching.
