Do you get full quality if you stream a movie locally with the chromecast function?

by Catchmycousin

I've downloaded a 4K movie at 16gb and I want to play it on my Google TV without losing any quality. I'm guessing that running it on MXPlayer on my phone and casting it will result in quality loss. Am I correct in that assumption?

The file size is not relevant btw because size will depends on how long the video is. What matters is the resolution and bit rate.

Wi-Fi is certainly capable of streaming 4K since that’s how most people view videos.

I think it should work as long as your source device is using a 4K display and has enough CPU to do the job.

Try and see. You could also try downgrading the video and see if you can detect any difference when you stream it.

If you’re doing this regularly, it would probably be easier to get a USB hub and use a SD card/USB key.

Do you mean you're screen mirroring your phone? If so, yes you're probably losing quality because I doubt your phone is 4K resolution.

If the Chromecast is fetching the file from your phone and playing it directly, that should be full quality.

I'm thinking maybe try Plex. I've heard a lot of good things about Plex regarding download content. Just check out some YouTube video about it. It also has free TV stations kinda like Pluto TV. It's a great app to have for music ,movies and even if you have a HD homerun TV tuner with antenna. It's pretty slick.

Kodi might do the trick for you

Use VLC app, via casting, and you'll get the true quality the majority of the time

I'm sure a faster connection probably would help with 4k content

I'm not sure if you need to use a special type of player really.

Are you trying to stream from a "website"? Or a unofficial app?

Why don't you play it directly on the TV rather than casting from your phone?

If you have to cast, try casting using bubble UPNP app and compare it to MX Player's. See if there's a difference.

You could just cast the download link. No need to download the file.

If you have the Chromecast with Google TV, buy one of these.

Might need a better power supply, but this would let you copy movies to a flash drive (or hard drive) and play directly off that. VLC or Kodi would easily see the device and play whatever 4K video you have.

NOTE: Must be formatted to Ex-Fat for those large file sizes, it wont see NTFS formatted drives.
