TCL S446 - force 5GHz

by marakalastic

wondering if anyone knows how to force GoogleTV to the 5GHz frequency of a dual combined 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi network? My TV is about 3 feet from my router with direct line of sight. Even turning the Wi-Fi on and off, the tv seems to resort to the 2.4GHz frequency as I'm not getting more than ~80mbps. Other devices that have around don't have any issue connecting to the 5GHz frequency and getting up to 800mbps.

Poked around in the tv settings but haven't found anything yet.

EDIT: so apparently, connecting to a 5GHz network is somewhat irrelevant as basically all TV network cards are 10/100 only?

I think android/google TV limits the wifi settings for that type of thing. What you could do is set up a guest network on your router with a different SSID. Set the guest network to 5 GHz only and connect the TV to this.

Use different networks for 2.4 and 5, or change 5ghz channel width in router settings, some devices dont favour 5ghz if channel width is 20 or 40mhz.

Go into your router settings and block tbag device from using the 2.4 connection, forcing it to only use 5ghz since that’ll be the only viable option for it to connect once it times out on the 2.4 attempts

Also note that while 3 feet is probably fine, you can absolutely be too close to a wireless router which can overpower some devices, basically adding a lot of noise. Some will say 5-6 feet away is better.
