So wanted something small with a remote to play H.265 video on a crt.
It look like android tv doesn't support 4:3 UI?
I see some cheap android tv boxes with 3.5mm to RCA out.
How does that even work, does it output in 16:9, but squished? 4:3?

Kodi with an iPad compatible skin might be the only way to get something near a 4:3 UI these days
Unfortunately they don't, not even the ones with the analog video output, Android TV doesn't have a 4:3 option or mode in settings because they are meant to be used on 16:9 TVs only.
There are however, old 4:3 TVs with a 16:9 mode where you can see the whole picture inside with black bars at the top and bottom.
Edit: I forgot to mention that many video apps (not streaming apps) support the 4:3 aspect ratio so 16:9 videos can be seen formatted with the top and bottom bars but the UI will still appear cut-off on the sides.
