So I went and got the Android box onn and it only has the USB for power so I guess I need a otg cable to use USB devices?
I tried Walmart and target and they don't seem to sell otg devices so I have ordered an otg.
My main reason for wanting to use USB is to play movies from my dvd collection that I ripped on my computer. The Android tv has vlc so it can play any movie files.
It would have been so much better if they included a otg cord!
If you need usb, external storage, or cabled network, just pick up a USB hub that suits your needs. At the same time pick up a beefier power supply to power both the cast and the hub.
But....
If you want to play local files, you don't need anything magic really: from a windows box just set up a file share that holds your files, then download any of the many media center apps like Plex or Kodi onto the chromecast. Go into the sources in there to tell it about the share. It even looks at your files and compares them to IMDB so you know what you have.
