Samsung vs TCL vs Hisense

by Space_Boy788

Guys, help me to choose a TV.

I'm on a budget of a max of $1,200, and I'm wondering whether I should choose TCL QLED (65C725) over HISENSE (65U8G) and SAMSUNG (65AU8000) for the same price.

I will be mostly using it for streaming movies and TV shows and just a bit of gaming. Priority is for movies/TV shows.

I'm thinking the TCL one is really good with it being a QLED one. The HISENSE TV has the quantum dot feature too apparently. But I was told SAMSUNG crystal UHD has better picture quality than a TCL QLED or HISENSE ULED. Also, SAMSUNG performs better in every way compared to other brands I've mentioned, right?

What should I choose?

Edit: I'm thinking LG 65UM7300, since my friends suggested that to me. What do you think?

You’re better off asking in the home theater subreddit. Discussion here is more about Android TV as software/hardware than actual TV quality.

Bare in mind the Samsung uses Tizen OS and not Google TV/Android TV. I don't know what the recent ones are like but my 2019 model has gotten pretty more bloated over the years, making it slower. If you do end up picking the Samsung, grab a CCwGTV or another Android TV box and use that instead if you want to rely on the smart features.

I have two Hisense TV's. One is so old that it's just a TV. Nothing smart inside. It still has a great picture and works great after all these years. The other one I bought a few months ago and has Android TV. Both are good TV's and will last. I despise Roku which is why I will never own a TCL.

On the old Hisense I have an Nvidia Shield Pro. The best streaming device you can get.

Did you check the philips TVs as well?

Those tv's aren't even comparable. Samsung 8000 series is in a whole league under those tv's. You'd have to be looking at a Samsung Q80 for the same features. Q80 just for the 120hz. As for LG you'd need to be lookin at at a Nanocell 75 at the bare minimum. Nanocell 90 from LG would be equivalent to the TCL and hisense in terms of panel type and quality. The 7 and 8 series from LG and Samsung are both junk.

TCL has been around forever in China, it used to be the #1 manufacturer there.. don't know about now . But the point is TCL is a good brand at the cheap end.

I got a low end 55" 4k TV and I'm really happy.. can't imagine how good something over $1000 would be by TCL but probably pretty good.

Put up the browser reviews side by side for each TV and compare it all at once on your screen. Maybe get one of those highlighter or markup extensions where you can make notes on the web page.

I have the 65U8G, and absolutely love it. The new model is out as well and sits at the top end of your budget.

I stream. A lot. As in, I own an UHD of Jaws, but that is literally the only physical media I own. Love this TV.

Go to rtings.com and compare.

I’d go for the LG above anything else. The picture quality, build quality, and reliability are second to none.

Read a ton of reviews and planned before my purchase, Love my 55 inch Hisense U6G so far, great picture for the price. I had a TCL Roku for a bit but it eventually pooped out after being used as a monitor for two years, apparently the back lights are set to all shut off if just one of the strips burns out.

Never had a Samsung and I'm a big fan of theirs but they're a bit out of my price range plus I wanted Android and Samsung doesn't offer that in any of their TVs.

Whichever you end up with just make sure it can be used without an internet connection. I have heard some manufactures are making this harder and harder to try and force the use of their software.

Then hook up a decent streaming box, Chromecast, Nvidia Shield, Onn box, etc so you never have to worry about the apps, cruft, and future disappointment that tends to come with smart TV software.

are you from US? If so check on costco, i saw some posts on r/lgoled about LG C1 close to $1000

I have the 65 U8G and it is a great overall tv but it does have some major flaws. The two biggest being subpar motion processing and occasional ghosting with certain content.

So if you are sensitive to motion I would not recommend it. Although I will say the motion is fine when the frame rate and refresh rate are the same. It's when you're using the built in apps where it can really be a problem, like when you are watching a movie which is 24 fps but the app is running at 60hz.

But even using a 4k Blu ray player which runs at 24hz, you are still presented with a choice between severe stutter on any kind of slow panning shots with no soap opera effect and no artifacts, or reduced stutter with some SOE and no artifacts, or no stutter at all with a ton of SOE and some really nasty looking artifacts.

The ghosting is less of an issue and really only happens rarely in some games. 95% of the games I've played have none at all, some have none the majority of the time but certain lighting/colors in some scenarios will have ghosting (like the 1st person segments in Returnal) and I've only found 2 games where ghosting is prevalent for pretty much everything. Hades, and RE Village.

I really do like a lot of what this tv does. And I got it on sale for 860 so for that price you really can't beat it. But looking back with the knowledge I have now, I probably would have just spent a bit more and gone with a Sony X90J or an LG A1.

Where are you located? Hisense doesn't have the same specs outside of NA and the cheapest TCL worth it is the C835. THE AU8000 sucks big time

Reading through the half attempts of unbiased answers to which TV is the best I'd say this thread is a bust. Looks like it would be best to go to a website like Best buy or Amazon and read actual reviews.

Where I live all TCLs have Android/Google TV. For futureproof TV that you can keep for decades,I would Go for a TCL C835 here are sold below 1000€, Just because Sony X95K is still out of price. Yes, I keep TVs for long so I will never buy an OLED.
