I really hope something good comes out of this, the only way this device will survive is if they’re doing something new and innovative, or extremely niche, I really hope it’s one of those. Because if they’re dropping android, it needs to be good or it will fail. people want their streaming apps, and if they’re planning on dropping the google play store and starting their own App Store, it will fail. At least with any androidtv device you can side load whatever you want so it’s never total junk (cough firetv cough). Whereas if TiVo does their own thing and they do it wrong it will turn into junk. I really really hope they do something exciting, innovative, and new, that isn’t even on the market in any other product right now, I could think of a few things off the top of my head, And they could do something really cool given their history, I just don’t have much hope because the TiVo stream 4K was okay to say the least, but extremely underwhelming and unremarkable, like corporate half-assed the product, it should have been way more awesome, all they basically did was an app, that’s it. And the app is okay, but the App Store has better apps that does the same thing, that you can get on other androidtv devices. They need to create a device that will make their diehards want to upgrade, so it clearly needs to support cable tv as a minimum, and if it doesn’t, it needs to aggregate crap out of the streaming cable apps, and not be married to one app like slingtv like the TiVo stream 4K was on launch. Fingers crossed but not holding my breath.

Another TV OS. Just what is needed. 🙄 I'm not sure why anyone would want a media OS that's not integrated with the rest of their device ecosystem, whatever that may be. Maybe the coming Matter rollout will help fix that, but devices need to have Matter capability.
