How to send HDMI-CEC wake signal from TV to soundbar

by adventur3r

Hello, I have a soundbar audio connected to my media box (via optical) so to have the media box remote turn everything on and in the end, off, I have the media box connected to the TV (AndroidTV 8) via HDMI for picture, and the TV with a HDMI cable to the soundbar only to turn it on via HDMI-CEC last.

But if I select the Philips AndroidTV sound output to HDMI, powering on and off the soundbar works well, but internal speakers keep on, echoing sound, and the media box apps like YouTube pause sound for 5 seconds when i press the main remote button to bring up the video progress bar (annoying). If I select the TV sound output to "Disable Internal Speakers" the soundbar works at 100% but I have to use 2 remotes to turn the whole system on, and later off.

My perspective is, if I force send HDMI-CEC wake command to the soundbar when the Android TV wakes up, I can workaround this issues, and have the whole system controlled via the media box simple remote to turn on and off.

Is there any app or way to configure AndroidTV to do this? Send HDMI-CEC wake command on start, and sleep command on Off ?

Thanks for any tips.

Why are you using Optical? Does the TV and/or Soundbar not have HDMI-ARC ports?

This part confuses me. If the media box remote can control the TV, and you have the cec/arc enabled in the TV settings there shouldn't be a problem turning the TV speakers off. Also like others said there shouldn't be anything other than HDMI. Make/model of all the equipment in question might help clarify some of my questions.

alternate suggestion.. physically disable the speakers on the TV if you're cool with opening the TV up enough to where you can disconnect the wires or if possible drill an inconspicuous hole through the speaker grill and the cones so you can locate and cut the wires. Would suggest finding a teardown guide or similar so you know right where to go. Not something I would do with my nice TV but I would do it on my other ones lol.

..... use HDMI-ARC? Optical is great and all but HDMI is the simplest solution.

Media box to TV with HDMI, TV to soundbar HDMI Arc, remove optical cable
