What's a good <$75 Box for use as/with a web Browser

by Gullible_Eagle4280

Looking for any recommendations for an AndroidTV box (at or under $75 U.S.) to stream a couple of websites to watch on my TV. I would need to watch/stream via a browser so one that runs Chrome, Brave, Firefox or similar and preferably comes with a remote that has a keyboard/mouse function would be great! TIA

You can get an ONN 4K for $20 at Walmart. Pretty much is just a rebranded mibox. I can cast to mine from my phone no problem. You can also cast from your computer. Web browsers on Android TV aren't the greatest.

I'm using the Amazon Silk browser on a Fire platform, a Safari browser on my hacked Goggle tv on an Android tv ,so it's not really a cheap box/toggle. I've tried Firefox on the Fire TV too. I haven't tried to set up a keyboard. Usually a video stream uses a display engine that you can toggle full screen. That's an important feature for me. Usually I can enter text using voice, if I'm lucky. Get yourself the cheapest dongle and experiment with available browsers. Don't have high expectations.

Any Android TV device can do this, $20 ONN UHD would be a good choice. You can go to any apk site and get Chrome or any Android browser to sideload. There are also a few browsers on the Play Store.

Which streaming sites are you using? If it is a site that you have to use ad blockers on, you will probably have to set up Firefox with uBlock Origin or Ghostery to keep from pop ups and click redirection crap.

I personally use a Onn 4k in one room and a Chromecast w/ Google TV in the other room. The Onn is a little faster, but the USB C port on the Chromecast can do more things more easily with the right hub attached. (think SD card reader, Ethernet, USB, not HDMI though). You will likely need to upgrade to a better USB power brick as the one that comes with the Chromecast will not handle a big hub device without giving a power error.

The Onn will also work with a USB OTG cable, but you can be limited on what all hooks to the OTG cable ports because of the limits of the power brick.

I use the Tivo stream 4k It's Google certified and works pretty smooth no glitches. Been using it for a couple of years.

So far this work well as a browser for Android tv. Even supports IPTV urls. The IPTV player works flawlessly without lag and blows away kodi which in my experience has a constant issues with staying synced when playing IPTV channels.

Any of these Chinese boxes for less than $50 will work great for what you need.

I found Android TV frustrating trying to use web browsers for sports, it never felt right and I tried mi box, shield and 2021 bravia TV. I went and installed lineage on a odroid N2 and just used the inbuilt streaming platforms on the tv for everything else.
