How come Twitch.tv is so cpu demanding?

I don't have a particularly high end media player (Realme 4K stick) but the only playback I have the occasional issue with is Twitch.tv. I get warnings of high cpu temperature and sometimes it crashes. This is at 1080p 60fps. I don't have any problems playing 4K content on different streaming services and I thought they had to be higher bitrate.

It could have something to do with the fact that many broadcasters erroneously believe that they're doing their viewers a favor by transmitting at excessive quality, not realizing that it causes high load for the viewers because twitch doesn't transcode most streams.

Are you using the official twitch client? That app is trash especially on low end devices because it’s always trying to play everything automatically. >!
