ONN 4K one of the best $20 investments

by epictetusdouglas

I've had 2 of these for about a year now and I've not regretted the purchase for a minute. I can't say that about my Chromecasts (which I quickly sold) or even my Rokus which have been mostly reliable. But the ONN devices have worked consistently, had regular updates, and have not let me down like other devices. What has your experience with them been?

I have one. It's fantastic. Far better than the 4k firestick. I should have bought more!šŸ˜€

I put a script together to automate enabling external storage. It was written for the ONN box but so far works on other Android TV devices I've tried it with.

I fully support them and have moved on from anything Amazon related hardware wise. I don’t trust what Amazon can do and was getting tired of all their bloat ware!

I'm from Chile. I bought one on Ebay. It's far better than any other android tv available in superstores.

Fun fact: here in Chile, Wallmart doesn't sell ONN 4K Android TV boxes, they just sell the chinese equivalent ("X96 mini").

I'm convinced Walmart ordered the chipset used in the 4k box by mistake. All their other products in that range are underpowered and barely perform as advertised, yet the 4K box runs silky smooth with performance to spare?? They must've gotten a digit wrong in a part number when they ordered the things, it's literally the only explanation I can think of lol

No way to enable Dolby Vision and Atmos on them, right?

Found a video showing how to update the 4K which pointed to XDA. UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 19.1 for Amlogic G12*/SM1 Family Devices

I lost the link…

I have the ONN box, and I love it. I've not added games or anything flashy, just the standard apps and they all work well.

A much better option than the more expensive Roku and others like them.

If you de-bloat it, it becomes even nicer. There's a couple tutorials here in reedit. I did that as soon as I got mine. I'm running Kodi, tivimate and smartube and I works a treat. Best spent $20 in a while.

First batch I had, 2 out of 3 the remotes just started disconnecting. Bought replacements, cause they are 20 bucks, and those have been just fine.

They are one of the best deals out there.

Bought 1 and after a month I got another one. Had them for about 9 months and they’re great. Only issue was the remote but it was just that the batteries were low. They’re way more stable than the Chinese boxes.

I wish they'd make the CCwGTV remote just like that. I tried the remote from my Vodafone TV that looks like that with it, but not all the buttons worked, and I couldn't map the volume buttons for the TV with the GCCwTV software.

Edit: found this: https://www.twelectronics.co.uk/g10-g20 Will give it a try!

I have one was so surprised how smooth it was

CenterInYou

Yep! Even at their original price of $29.99 these are amazing.

I bought one for the bedroom a few months back not expecting much. But it is one of those products that basically undercuts all of the competition so completely there is literally nothing on the market in streaming boxes that is even worth considering anymore unless you are after beefier hardware. I honestly keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and something terrible and shady comes to light about the devices because they just give you so much for what they cost.

fattymcbuckles

I think they are great! Best bargain in streaming.šŸ˜€

I bought 2 since it was inly 20$ and brought it back to Canada. I can’t seem to connect to the wifi… i can see the ssid’s and connect with the credentials but keep getting cant find ssid on both of them. I have a cube so I used the ethernet adaptor to update it and still can’t connect to the wifi. 🄺unfortunately I can’t return them since its not sold in Canada. So bad experience so far for me šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

Box is forgetting somehow his remote. And remote is not working. Happens almost everyday.

Total agree Onn box + Tivimate šŸ¤©šŸ”„

I bought one and have used it for about a month now. My issue with it is that you breathe on it and it reboots, if you are lucky. I was just now watching TV and it just powered off. If the power issues weren't an issue (I've tried it directly in my wall outlet and in my APC 1500) it would be amazing. Thinking I'm just going to spend the money and get a KM2 or Shield Pro and be done with all the testing and playing.

ak8231

Is it available in Canada?

bobniborg1

Love the one we got. I don't update it though. Same with most of my Android tv stuff. Once I have it working as is I don't update. No need to screw up what already works lol. If there is a new feature then I wait and see if everyone else has been ok. This is true for system and app updates lol.

kurmudgeon

I just purchased one of these for my guest bedroom. My only gripe with it, there's no way to bring up recent apps to close them.

mishaxz

This is actual Android TV, right? Not just android?

beadvised22

Same thing as Dyanlink box but cheaper.

Enginerd2001

My only complaint so far which was brought up in somebody else's post is that the power button will only turn off one device. I can set it to turn off the TV or the A/V receiver, but it won't power both of them on/off. I have to use a second remote to turn off the second component. The fire stick I replaced would power both of them off/on.

Hello, I purchased one of these onn Android devices. The thing is it goes directly to Google Play store apps. I can't find any of my own apps or for some reason can't use a browser to install third-party apps. And how do I delete any of the apps on the home screen so I can have only what I want there and not everything from the Google Play store? I really want to like this thing. Thanks for any help.

sirsriverse

I love this little box, but for some reason doesn't work well with my sound bar, not complaining but just a minor inconvenience. Not sure if anyone else has this issue. Once I turn off and turn on the TV using the Onn UHD remote, the volume control goes to Android volume instead of the soundbar volume, which is what it is prior. I had to toggle off and on CEC on the Onn UHD to change the volume of the soundbar. This has to be done every time I turn on the TV, if anyone had this issue and possibly found a solution or work around, please share. Thank you!

UPDATE: it’s in the settings under Bluetooth, of course. Just paired a Bluetooth speaker. It was easy. Never mind.
