I have a Xiaomi Mi Stick 4K and an old Samsung HT-Z210 kit (w/ Dolby Digital/DTS).
I'd like to hook them to get DTS 5.1 audio on Kodi (my own Blu-ray rips) and DD on streaming apps. Since my 2019 samsung TV doesn't support HDMI audio passthrough and the Stick doesn't have optical out, I've come up with the following:
Connect the stick to an HDMI audio extractor > optical out to receiver
With this can I get 5.1 audio if I setup the Stick/Kodi to passthrough audio?
Specifically, I want to know if I'll be able to get the Dolby Digital core from the Dolby Digital Plus on Netflix and the same for DTS from the Blu-rays?
I thought this would work, but I've seen constant threads about how only the "B" variant of the SOC would be able to decode surround sound. I thought having passthrough on the Stick would mean the receiver would handle it, but you fellas surely know more.
You may get Dolby Digital and DTS out of Kodi and other media player apps but you won't get Dolby Digital Plus transcoded to Dolby Digital from Netflix and other streaming services because the stick doesn't have the SoC in the B variant that allows the conversion.
I think you will get Dolby Digital from HBO Max but I can't confirm it.
