Google Home remote no longer works, don’t have physical remote anymore. What do I do now?

by Meme25327

I have a dongle/set-top box thing by nokia that has Android TV. I lost the physical remote and so I have been using Google Home’s built in remote instead.

Last night it started saying “full remote unavailable, make sure your streaming device has the latest software version”. It would now only allow me to change the volume.

Looking around online I saw that the remote software on the TV gets periodic updates and I should just wait for it to update in a couple hours. It’s been over 24 hours now and the remote still doesn’t work. Auto-update should be on (or at least I don’t remember turning it off).

I can still cast to the TV via Netflix/Youtube/Spotify, which is what I mainly use, but I would prefer to have the full remote back.

What can I do now? Just keep waiting?

Google TV app for Android (and maybe iOS) has a remote so you can control your phone if compatible.

Is it lost for good? I'd look again between the cushions or behind the couch just in case. Make Kyoko proud 🕵️‍♀️

If you have a powered USB-C hub around you can plug a mouse or keyboard so you can pair another remote or gamepad or fix whatever happens to the remote app.

Edit: See, I was thinking about a stick, your Nokia box already has USB ports! Just plug a mouse

This will not solve your current issue, but are you near a WalMart? The Onn Android Box remotes work with the CCwGTV. For $15 if you can find the 1080p unit or $20 is you have to go with the UHD, it would be a good replacement for the regular remote. Just have to be able to open the pairing menu on the device though.

I have the same issue with Google Home remote occasionally. Is your Google TV on VPN? Or just try reconnecting your TV and your Google Home device to your WiFi again and probably Google Home can recognise all devices correctly.

Same thing happened to me. I cleared storage in the tv’s android tv remote service app, re-paired my phone and it’s working again.
