3rd Party apps cant use HDR and 4K ?

by TechGen1us

Hello, I've been using 2017 Philips Android TV since its out and now its running android 8 but there is a problem. Im using Kodi to watch my local movies and i dont know why but Kodi cant give output at 4K Res and cant use HDR capabilities which is weird. There must be some system side restrictions but i dont know how can we bypass it. I mean after all Netflix, amazon prime and disney plus can use 4K and HDR capabilities but Kodi and most of the 3rd party apps cant use it.

You have to have a subscription to real debrid except with GenX addon which has a lot 4k movies. Here is the link for installing https://www.wirelesshack.org/how-to-install-gen-x-kodi-addon-1.html

Must be whatever addons you're using. Kodi does 4k HDR just fine with local files.

Are you 100% sure TV is HDR? If so what type? HDR 10, HDR+ or Dolby Vision? Have you tried connecting storage directly to TV and play files with TV's video player?

Kodi can play HDR content with no problems.

I have a Sony with Kodi on an Nvidia Shield Pro. All 4K videos look washed out and HDR is dim. In regular streaming apps like Netflix and Prime Video 4K and HDR look fine. I think there is a Kodi issue.

download "just a video player" from the google store

I have a Hisense U6H (google tv built in) with the exact same problem. Kodi thinks only 1080p resolution is available, and HDR does not work either so the content looks kinda bad. My old LG with an nvidia shield however works fine on Kodi with both 4K and HDR.

EDIT: The "sync playback to display" option seems to work for me. Both 4K and HDR are working now.
