Hi, I have a firestick 4 k max and an Intel NUC for Kodi (connected via lan to my Nas)
I would like to buy a new box for all ( streaming and Kodi)
My first choice is Nvidia shield pro 2019 but became to be old (no AV1) and second choice is Homatics box but I don't know how could be support after sale (bugs and updates)
Any suggestions ?
Box R 4K is on pre-order ATM, better wait for more YouTube reviews. I found only one in the Korean language.
Homatics 4k+ is currently the best specced S905 box. But support long term in unknown (even short term support is unknown).
Shield still has the most powerful SoC by far, and it has really great 4k upscaling. But it lacks updated decoders (no VP9 profile 2 for HDR and no AV1). Support is literally the best in the Android world for any device.
Just depends on what you prioritize/need.
MeKool boxes have great specs but you will get basically zero updates.
If all you gonna do is stream get a $70 - $100 media box. Make the Nuc your primary box if you gonna game, just upgrade your ram if needed. I have a Nvidia Shield and it's been running great almost 7yrs strong now. I use it to stream and watch movies everyday, also I have it loaded with emulators and roms for light gaming all in all I will get another media box just to stream, my Nvidia is my primary box in my living room.
Does the Homatics Box R 4K Plus support lossless TrueHD 7.1 and DTS:X passthrough.
Is already known if the Homatics can output HD Audio?
The Shields hardware is aging not much has changed from the the first one. Maybe look at the Mecool KM2 Plus (AV1 support). For streaming I like the Apple TV 4k and the Roku Ultra just no kodi.
Shield. I have the oldest one and still runs fine. Still gets updates. Still best option if you can afford it.
