I thought Chromecast with Google TV was already Low end :-/
It would be crazy not to buy a 4k ONN device instead of this pathetic offering from Google. They need to upgrade the CCWGTV instead.
This makes no sense as they could create the needed 16gb model and discount the 2yr old to whatever price they're trying to hit.
I hope there’s a better remote with it, the current one is like a stick of butter to me lol
Hell yeah because we all were just dying for a low end streamer. Bunch of clowns. I dunno maybe try Nvidia shield for a day to get some ideas on how you could do better.
If they stick with using amlogic, it it will probably use a S805X2, and will probably have only 1 to 1.5 GB of ram. It does not take much imagination to understand that this will not be the best experience (just try the low-end $15 onn hd device). And running the google tv launcher is more demanding compared to the generic android tv launcher.
But if the onn hd is $15 and this new low-end google device is still $30, the price conscious (in the US) will still go to walmart. Even though the S805X2 is superior to the S805Y used on the onn 2k device. But maybe google will somehow make using the new hd device a good experience, such that it will be clearly distinguishable from the onn 2k hd device beyond just the SoC used.
A low end budget device to get an even less capable version is certainly good news.
Chromecast audio would be great though, casting to multiple speakers in the house woudl be great.
I do really hope that Google goes the route of NVidia where they make the remote (if new) compatible with the older 4k model and sold standalone (at an OK price).
Not saying this remote will be different or better the choice would be nice.
I'd love to see a TV version of google Tensor chip with at least 16gb. Unlikely at this price and only HD speculation. It was interesting they used the pixel 6 chip in the 6a.
For more glitches! lol. Wish we could have a more powerful Google TV, but well.
Isn't the problem with current Chromecast with Google TV the poor performance? Oh well, Nvidia Shield to the rescue
Bringing out a new budget device when the first one is still a sh*t show. Well done Google. Maybe frame rate sync would be an good idea as this was on my first popcorn hour. Poor device, software and support. Will not by another google device. The support for this one has been shockingly bad. Shame on you google.
wow, they're actually still going through with this? certainly an interesting strategy - when a device is 2 years old, running low on storage, & it's time for its hardware to be updated... release a downgraded model instead.
hopefully they optimize the software more at least, the current one has gotten laggy as hell with app & launcher updates
