My aunt loves to have the TV on all day in the background. She has probably 5-10 shows that she likes to watch/let play rerun episodes. She used to watch these on a TV channel, but she can't get that channel anymore, or really any TV channels right now.
The logical solution is to play whatever shows she wants on the smart TV, but she absolutely cannot work the remote. Endless tutorials have been given. She can watch it only if someone sits with her and operates the remote for her.
So I would really like to find an app on their smart TV (which has the Google Play Store) that will autoplay a selection of random episodes from chosen TV shows. I would like for someone to be able to turn on the TV for her, open the app and press play.
Does anyone know of an app like this?
Additionally, if anyone knows of a Jitterbug (the cell phone for older people) type universal remote, that might help. Something ridiculously simple with big buttons for Netflix, Hulu, etc. I don't think this would solve it entirely, because she would still have to deal with the app interfaces. But it might help.
I have a solution for this. I have been doing this for years for my elderly clients. The best advice I can give you is Tivimate. Now I know Tivimate premium cost specifically $27.08 after tax but since you say this is your aunt I would imagine she is worth it on some quantum level. After that you can set up auto play, and while you’re at it set up your IP vanish to automatically load up Tivimate and then set up your Tivimate to auto play last channel the exact thing that you want to right now. I’ll even go beyond that, create a folder just for her with her top 10 to 50 channels(getting channels from plex Pluto Tubi Samsungtv etc assuming you don’t have an IPTV service). That way all she had to do is go up or down, I’ll even go further than that, get you a Bluetooth remote since we are on the android page, get you a cheap simple Bluetooth remote that has very minimal buttons. You might even want to use button mapper app. It’s a hit for all my elderly clients and I sincerely love older people. Will do anything for them. If you need more advice please just contact me but as of three years now I have perfected the ultimate android device for elderly people and trust me it works flawless. Again the steps are: make sure whenever device turns on your VPN turns on in my case I use IPvanish from there I go into the settings and then have it set to open up whatever app I choose after it is fully connected, from there I go into the settings of Tivimate and program it to load up the last channel. Now on my Tivimate I have Plex Pluto and SamsungTVplus so that’s over or almost 3000 channels. you don’t even need any type of IPTV subscription. Especially for Pluto as long as you get the M3U and epg guide figured out. They have plenty of channels elderly people just seem to love especially the 70s 80s and 90s movie section. This is the best solution for your family playa. And trust me I charge heavily for this but I’m passing on my good karma today. Lastly, you said you like to find an app that does this, well you might want to get one of those Walmart 15$-20$ onn tv. Or if you have a TV with the Google play store just download the things I mentioned. From there you can go into the play store and buy your Tivimate button remapper and IPVanish. You might not even need to buy a button remapper app as long as you find the right perfect and simple Bluetooth remote that can assist with power and volume. I recommend the TiVo remote. Yes it has many other buttons, just color them with a black sharpie who cares, but I mentioned the TiVo remote because my older clients seem to love that it has the 0-9 buttons… which will work well if you’re going to get Tivimate because it will automatically adjust all your channels in (number order). If you’ve done everything I’ve said, this will cost you a one time fee of maybe $50. Goodluck pimp.
