Dolby Vision not available on Netflix.

by iloveowls23

Hi,

For some reason I’m not able to view any content from Netflix with DV (only HDR) on my Sony X950H since last week or so, even though, using the same Premium account I can see everything using HDR with Dolby Vision on my Apple TV 4K… is there a reason for this? Can I fix it?… I’d rather use my tv’s native apps, thanks.

Forgot to mention, I can use DV with every other app: Disney+, Prime, etc.

Edit: It looks like the solution is this; go to your Netflix Account settings, scroll down to "Test participation" and turn it off. Reset your TV and reinstall the app.

Please report any different outcome in the comments.

So I just did another factory reset and it’s still happening. I’m guessing Netflix has chosen to use HDR for all Android TVs in my country now, I don’t think the issue lies in either the TV (Sony) or Android (since all other apps show and play Vision perfectly).

I'm in the US and I've been having the same issue with Netflix on a Roku TV. Reinstalling app didn't fix it. It must be a Netflix problem.

I just checked and it started working for me again, last time I tried was about 7 hours ago. The only thing that changed since then was that I turned off "Test participation" in my Netflix account settings. Either that or time fixed it (knock on wood).

Same problem on my TCL roku tv, yesterday in the middle of watching shows it changed out of nowhere. My iPhone still shows…weird

It’s not showing the Vision icon on Netflix or is your tv not detecting that it’s Dolby Vision? I have the same model tv and I can watch in DV on Netflix. I’m in Canada if that makes a difference.

Same issue for me in the UK on my Bravia - no Dolby Vision on Netflix, but DV works fine on other apps. If I cast Netflix to my Chromecast the DV works fine. Really hope they fix it soon!

Thanks for the post that resolves the issue of Dolby Vision not showing up on Netflix and showing up in HDR. I turned off "Test Participation" on my Netflix account and now DV is back. I had contacted Netflix support previously and they were clueless on resolving this. Appreciate the help community.

Using the SONY A8H Amdroid TV. You have to go to your Netflix account on a browser to fix this and reset your account on your TV

Was having this issue on my TCL 6 Series Roku TV. The solution up top fixed it. Thanks u/iloveowls23

Strange, have you tried clearing the Netflix app data?

If that doesn't work maybe uninstall the updates and see if the original version on your TV works (I'm assuming it came installed on your TV as a system app but I could be wrong)

My X90K gets Dolby Vision, but not Dolby Atmos in Disney+. I have Dolby Atmos is other apps. There appears to be random issues with Sony TVs maybe...

Same thing on my TCL P607 Roku TV. I spent 30m on a live chat and finally hung up on the guy because he kept telling me it was my TV's issue, even though I kept telling him I got DV on every other source. He also tried to tell me that Dolby Vision was "brand new technology."

I get the DV icon on my phone (not not on my 2020 MacBook Air, which supposedly supports it.

So version 9.0+ was released starting August 20, the most recent being 9.0.1 build 11162 back on September 9th.

I sideloaded version 8.3.5 which was released in May, and it still doesn't fix it. This leads me to believe this is something server side and not caused by the app itself.

As I've said, I don't even get regular HDR, much less DV.

Something odd happened a little while ago. Everything started showing the Dolby Vision logo again instead of HDR so I thought it was fixed. But stuff was still actually playing in HDR not DV. I reset my TV to see what would happen and it went back to saying HDR. Thanks for the false hope, Netflix.

I was messaging with Netflix today and they have said they are not supporting Dolby Vision at this time. This is big deal.

Thank you OP for the tips on your post. I turned off test participation and "Reloaded" netflix on my Bravia. Netflix -> Get Help -> Reload Netflix. Dolby vision started appearing again. Probably netflix is testing out a project to get people's mentality about Dolby Vision and Atmos. probably it has something to do with Google's project caviar.

Turning off "Test participation" on my netflix account fixed my issue with no Dolby Vision on my TCL Roku TV. This is not just an issue for Android TV.

The process is more complex though in my case.

  1. You have to login via a web browser to change account settings - the Roku Netflix app doesn't have a place to change account settings.
  2. Restarting the TV didn't seem to have an effect. There is no "Reset" or "Reload" for the app on Roku. I needed to remove the app, install it again and login again. Then you will see Dolby Vision back. Just changing "test participation" will not fix it by itself.

This is a really dumb issue... I do not know why Netflix can't figure out why they're breaking Roku devices. You figure they'd test every device before rolling out updates.
