I have one of these devices. I no longer subscribe to DirecTV stream, and was wondering if there is a way to install full android TV on it and not use the stock installation on the box?
I can still use other apps as it is, but it often forces me to a screen that says I’m no longer subscribed. I’d like to get rid of that and just have a full Android TV experience. Does anyone know if this is even possible?
Kind of, sort of, maybe. It depends how extensive the underlying AndroidTV was customized for/by DirecTV.
For Verizon's StreamTV box only the Verizon Launcher had to be uninstalled/disabled via ADB connection, then with a third-party launcher installed the TV-box was like any other AndroidTV Set-Top-Box; because only the stock/original preinstalled StreamTV launcher linked the device to Verizon. But Verizon did give you the option not to link the device to an account during the device's initial set-up, were I believe DTV has locked-down its device on initial first boot-up; so make sure you never have to do a factory reset, or you may be locked-out from using the device till signing back up with DirecTV.
