Tp-link AC750 - only NETFLIX works

by SocketPing

TV in hotel room has an ethernet cable - i unplugged the cable from the tv and plugged it into the tp-link ac750. My iPhone connects to the router and works like a charm. I then connected a MiBox to the TV (hdmi) and the tp-link router. The MiBox says that it is connected to wifi but that it does not have internet access and nothing on the MiBox works, EXCEPT NETFLIX, which also works like a charm. I am stumped, how is this possible?

They may have blocked things on their network, except Netflix.

At a guess, I'd probably say the Ethernet port that connects to the TV is on a different subnet, that is configured to block all services except for what is specifically used by the TV (i.e. Netflix).

There might be another Ethernet port in the room that is meant for a guest to hook up a laptop. Try to locate that and use it for your router instead. It'll probably be near a desk.

Use a VPN. I have a VPN directly to my home network since some popular VPN companies get blocked too on occasion. There are routers allow you to connect to VPNs. Not sure about your model though.
