Onn 4k alternative

by whoknows234

I am looking for an Android TV box or equivalent that will play the same or more codecs than the FireTV stick. My main complaint is there is way too many ads with FireTV. Im looking to direct play my files using Jellyfin.

I have tried the Onn 4ktv box and it is very promising, but it appears to be lacking Dolby Digital and Atmos. Are you guys aware of any AndroidTV or boxes that will direct play the videos without advertisements ?

Im wondering if something like these will work. I would rather not get a Shield as they are kind of expensive.

The tivo 4k stream is pretty cheap, has a nice remote. You can get rid if the tivo stuff pretty easily.

If you want Android TV you will have to put a 3rd party launcher on it to keep from having an ad banner. CCwGTV supports Dolby Vision and DD+ Atmos.

The Onn.4K has DolbyAudio. What app are you using and not getting at least DolbyDigital or DD+ ? Doesn't the Jellyfin app have the ability to automatically passthrough Surround-Sound audio, and/or transcode the audio?

Out-of-the-box the Onn.4K doesn't passthrough DolbyAtmos (EAC3_JOC), but with some ADB shell commands to manually force the Settings it can do so.

Though, if your library is full of DTS-HD and Dolby-TrueHD files then the Nvidia ShieldTV Pro is your best & only officially certified device option to purchase, and still be able to passthrough HD-Audio codecs. The budget alternative to the ShieldTV is a D-I-Y project, were you use an uncertified Amlogic device and install the open-source CoreELEC linux software to make a budget mediaplayer.
