I'm looking for an affordable TV tuner that I can use with my Chromecast with Google TV. I bought a dumb tv that I'd like to make "smarter" by using the Chromecast to handle the TV input.
I found the HDHomerun but they're a bit expensive and I have no need for DVR functionality
Is this possible?
I can tell you that the Mygica A681B works well (when it works) with the fta tuner app from the play store and populates the channels into the live channels app (also from the play store).
The problem I (and others) have with it is that it would cause the ccwgtv to reboot from time to time, sometimes every hour or so. I solved this problem by making a custom usb cable that entirely separates the power lines of the tuner (in order to power it separately) and only sends the usb data lines to the ccwgtv. Just using a higher amp power supply won't stop the reboots, the tuner has to be powered independently.
Still I'm hesitant to recommend this tuner, although I still use it. It is on amazon (B08Z383Y11) for about 25 US. I'm still looking for a better cheap tuner, maybe even atsc 3.0 too.
