I haven't used my mi box in a long time to watch movies but when I did, I had to use This box to do the decoding for me.
Now I just convert all my media to DD5.1 using Xmedia Recode which is free to use.
Yes, with the current Android 9 firmware, when you select the SPDIF option, Dolby Digital Plus gets converted to Dolby Digital from all apps, I was able to enjoy it when I had mine.
