Cannot connect Bluetooth headphones to Onn. UHD Android TV device

by reddit_shenanigans

Tried to connect my AirPods 2 and Soundcore Life U2i's to my Onn. Android TV device with Android 10 and firmware update 1.01.36, but connecting them brings up the error "Couldn't pair" but my Xbox Wireless Controller pairs with no issue, is there a way to fix this?

Also there was nothing else connected or paired to the TV, just the remote it came with.

I don't have an Onn, but a Hisense (with Android TV). I had a lot of trouble connecting my Airpods. Not sure if it will work the same or not for your TV or Airpods 2, but it's worth a shot.

I figured out that when I opened the Airpods and searched for devices to pair on the TV, the Airpods would show up, BUT it would fail every time. However, if I pressed and held down the setup button till the light turned white on my airpods, then it would succeed.

However, at the time, it didn't work right. There was high latency issues and it was unbearable trying to watch anything. Upon further research, it seemed there would be nothing I could do and only specialized low latency headphones would work properly...at the time.. However, there had been a few TV updates since then, and your post prompted me to try again. I am now watching Netflix with my Airpods in with no latency issues! So, I guess thank you for giving me the idea to try again. I hope this solution works for you. Also, try updating your TV's firmware if there are any updates available.
