I had been watching BBC programs with a sideloaded version of the BBC iPlayer on my Mi Box using PIA VPN. Recently, that stopped working. I am doing a trial of the Smart DNS Proxy and that works just by changing the DNS, and without the VPN. Curious to hear from others who have done the same (or similar)?
While I am not using them right now, I was previously with https://dns4me.net/ and they were great for sites like BBC, ITV, My5, etc.
Edit: Just tested and their coupon code 'lovewp' still works too. Brings the price down 10%.

PlayOn Cloud also works with BBC iPlayer, for what it's worth, without any georestriction workarounds required.

I actually have actually used Smart DNS Proxy in the past. There are similar, more premium services, like unlocator.com , but Smart DNS Proxy was the cheapest I found and you'll find even better deals off site, I think I had a 24 months for well under $20 plan for the four years I used it.
Yes, it works (but you'll likely have to side-load the iPlayer app and keep it up to date manually) and it doesn't affect any of the services it doesn't redirect, which is a pretty big plus for a Smart DNS solution. It also doesn't require any additional software on the actual box.
My issue with it was, that it could be rather slow with compromised stream quality. This was not much of an issue with iPlayer, but it screwed up Amazon for me quite frequently. In order to redirect Prime Video it redirected all of Amazon, which frequently broke some of their services to the point of annoying me enough to switch to a VPN solution.
