Hi all!
I need to play local files in a loop without any fuss or OSD nagging me when the video loops. If that process can be scripted to auto-play on startup, better yet. I am based in Europe.
Cheers

Not sure about your specific needs, but there's a saying - if VLC can't play it, nothing can.

You absolutely want to roll your own on this. Adding a media player OS is only going to bring more failure points.
Personally I went the DIY route and skipped the onboard OS. Works on any kind of TV. All standalone, no Internet connectivity required.

It's simple enough that anyone can just dump files on a USB stick, and put it in. It will just play everything in a loop in alphabetical order. It's been running for years now.
