How to: Watch the Free Roku Channel on Android TV (without Casting)

by mpwalters

My goal is to be able watch the Roku Channel on Android TV without casting, in time for the Weird Al movie next month.

Don't have any Roku devices any longer, but have a Roku account (devices left with my wife). I can go to the URL https://therokuchannel.roku.com/ in my browser, login, and watch on my phone or PC.

The website appears picky with browsers. TvBro on Android TV generates a 403 error when I try log in and the web site also states the browser isn't supported.

Before I continue to sideload and experiment, does anyone have the Roku Channel viewable on their Android TV?

Do you have a spare fire tv device lying around?

There is an android tv app for therokuchannel, but it is coded to check that it is run on the fire os version of android tv;

Some hacker nerd could probably patch the apk to avoid the checks, but no such nerd has been so motivated yet.

Fireos is the only os that supports a tv style app for therokuchannel, other than actual roku devices.

i hope this thread leads to some success, ive been trying to get therokuchannel to work on my Android TV boxes for a while now, but "How to:" should be reserved for guides on how to do something, not for questions, i got excited thinking someone found a solution that doesnt require casting ::sad face::
