Try using just player ( https://github.com/moneytoo/Player ). I have been using it for a while now and it plays almost anything I throw at it, even 4k Blu-ray videos. Some information about my setup is on my blog ( https://abskmj.github.io/notes/tags/androidtv/ ).

Use Kodi, you can download it from the play store. If it still lags then you need a new hardware with better SoC.
