Where is the option to install unknown sources in chromecast hd (android 12) ?

by x_BadGrandPa_x

Didn’t find the option on chromecast hd (android 12). It’s not on the same location like chromecast 4k (android 10). In android 10, you will find under Privacy > Security & Restrictions > Unknown Sources.

But in chromecast hd (android 12), it’s not there.

So if someone can help me.

Thanks !

I had the same issue until I read all the comments and even though I had just completed a factory reset, I went for it again the long way using the remote (instead of your phone.) Set up, Developer Mode, Install IP Vanish, Install Downloader, Auto promts with toggle to ALLOW UNKNOWN SOURCES. Give that a toggle. Enter the code for Kodi on the Downloader Apk app, add the Crew Nich Build, add the task killer code to install on the Downloader app and whatever else your heart desires. I used several pages on Troypoint site to achieve this and obtain the needed codes. I hope this helps. I'm a novice.

Each app has its own option. If you try to install an APK you’ll get a pop up asking you to enable installations from that source (Downloader) for example.

I don't have that option in the settings on my Chromecast either. To make it work I enabled Developer Mode and then tried to install an app with AFTV Downloader. AFTV Downloader then asked me to enable unknown sources and linked a button to the setting. It works

Found. Download APK file. Open File Manager and select tab APK and open file, it shows you need a permission, open Settings and menu has been opened automatically. Select needed application, for example File Manager and installation will be started.

Android TV 12 on Chromecast 4K has same problem.

These steps finally worked for me on Android 12, with my Google TV HD

First - Enable developer mode by clicking on the build several times in the Settings/About screen

Second - Install "Send Files To TV" on your Google TV and phone

Third - Send APK to TV with above app

Fourth - Click on received file on Google TV

Fifth - Option is available to enable unknown source. It was not previously available before developer mode.

I found the way to do it. Enable development mode. Now use downloader app as usual to download any apk you like. While you still in downloader go to file and chose the apk you downloaded before. The unknown option will show up

Enable developer options first

SETTINGS » APPS » SECURITY & RESTRICTIONS » UNKNOWN SOURCES » Enable/Disable apps individually in list.
