Walmart Onn TV Box 4k CEC issues

by mogulman1

Anyone using the Onn TV Box with a CEC compatible TV?

I can't get it to work using CEC with my TV remote or the Onn TV remote.

The Onn TV remote will control volume on my sound bar through CEC, but won't power on/off my TV. (Power off makes the TV go to the home screen). I can setup the TV using IR but it's far away and isn't reliable.

TV is a TCL Roku TV. I tried using the TV remote, but that won't control the Onn TV at all.

Before this, I had a Firestick 4k and 4k max. The Firestick remote would control the TV (CEC) and Firestick perfectly.

I tried resetting CEC on my TV. Rebooting both.

Any other options? Some Bluetooth device that would pair to both the TV and the Onn tv box.

Have u gown thru all the options for your TV? I have a Samsung Tv and like the first 4 options would control the volume but not the power button. I had to keep going with the diff options the Box would give me until it got the code right.

FYI.. I was never able to get the ONN TV remote or my TCL Roku TV remote working correctly with the ONN TV 4k using HDMI CEC. Tried everything including resetting rebooting etc.

On a whim, tried pairing my Firestick 4k remote that I wasn't using anymore to the ONN TV 4k box and miraculously it works for everything CEC. Power, Volume, etc.

Going to keep using that and see how it goes. ONN TV remote is in my drawer. Tried unpairing the ONN Tv remote, but the ONN TV sticks on the remote pairing screen if there is no ONN TV remote associated.

Mine works fine with CEC on my Samsung TV. BUT, I have to use the Soundbar remote for my SamSung Soundbar, to turn the Soundbar on. Tried everything I know other then that, the soundbar works fine.

I tried all the options I could find. I guess the Onn TV just isn't compatible with my TCL for CEC. I even tried a different HDMI port on the TV with no luck.

I've the exact same setup and let me tell you you are not alone. I've literally tried every possible setting combination and finally gave up. I think it's the half baked CEC on Roku TV causing it.

Below settings in Onn UHD kinda worked, but remote doesn't work for a few minutes once in a while randomly, which I couldn't figure out why

Volume - Soundbar(IR) Power - TV (IR) Input - TV (IR)

I had couple of issues with this setup -

a) TV won't turn on with the Onn UHD remote anymore, I can turn it off though

b) Onn UHD remote is unresponsive for a couple of minutes after I turn on the TV. It works fine after a few minutes without any changes.

There was a setting on my Roku TV under Control other devices (CEC), enabled 1-touch play which did the trick.

Basically, 1-touch play tells the TV to automatically switch its active source/input to Roku player on any remote key press.

Although, I'm not using above settings anymore, can't remember why.

What are your current settings on Onn device?

My problem is slightly different. My Def tech soundbar is via optical. The Onn remote will only do power for the TV or the soundbar. But it won't do both. It makes me choose. Feel like I didn't have this problem with my TS4k. Shouldn't it do both together via IR? I really don't want the sofabaton remote, but it seems like it is the only solution.

I don't really care about cec since I have line of site for both.

My problem is on the input. The input button works - it can bring up the menu. However, I have no way to confirm any one, nor can I escape the source list menu. Wierd. Anyone having similar issue and know a way to get around it? This is the only minor issue i had with Onn.
