Which Device Would You Use For an LG c2 EVO OLED? Shield(2017) vs Chrome cast w/gGTV

by Mrtheboyfull

Hey all,

I just bought an LG C2 EVO OLED. I have a 2017 Shield which I am using with the tv that is about to get replaced but I also have a chromecast with google tv on my bedroom tv. I was wondering which device would be better to use with the tv. The shield is ultra fast and plays everything flawlessly but doesnt support Dolby Vision which the TV supports. The chromecast supports Dolby Vision but tends to be laggy and sometimes it just doesnt work correctly.

I am split here. Would using Dolby Vision make that big of a difference?

I have a both devices and an OLED and have always been happy with my shield tv. Much faster than the Chromecast.

I do plan to get a 2019 shield though so I can also have Dolby vision so there is that.

I'm using the 2017 shield with Dolby vision on a tcl 55P605 with no issues whatsoever. If your monitor is capable and the shield definitely is: I would expect its an issues with the HDMI cables you're using.

The Shield has a huge flaw in that certain apps(namely Disney+) don't display 24p content at the proper frame rate, so you get a stutter in the video. This makes it so unwatchable for me that I end up using the built in app on the TV instead.

I have an LG CX OLED and a 2015 shield - the shield started acting up so I decided to just give the WebOS a try, all the apps I use can be installed, the CX webos is very snappy, I can cast to it, it does Dolby Vision and DTS audio properly... - honestly now I just use the TV's interface. Is there something the Shield can do that the built in WebOS on the C2 can't do?

Apple tv 4k is on a crazy sale right now, I got the 32GB at best buy for $84 lol, it's normally like $179.

I have had both the shield and CCWGTV. I now have CCWGTV's on all 5 of my TVs and sold the shield.
