I'm really confused and curious. I've just had a TCL android tv for about one and half year hanging in the dinning room, the picture looks great but the performance is subpar, it's super slow, frequently reboots itself, etc. On the other hand, my new Google chrome works seamlessly on another TV. However, I still hesitate to replace it as it's still relatively new. But just for the better experience on chrome I wonder if it will be worth to replace it with a Google TV?
Maybe get another ccgtv for the tcl. The hardware used in the tvs is not very good.
If you're having problems with it go to the Telegram TCL discussion channel. Have your TV model and current version of firmware from system info, about....search your TV model there and there is probably a more recent version of firmware available...all fw there is TCL valid for use....my c825 can use either Android TV or GOOGLE TV firmware...but get the correct fw for your set then also search the install instructions... everything is in the Telegram TCL channels.
The main difference is ads, a lot of ads, unlimited ads in Google TV ;)
Typical Google the originL name was Google TV then started failing change to Android tv. Back to gtv
It's kind of like Samsung branding their own version of Android on their mobile phones, even though it is still just Android underneath. They do more tweaks than just the launcher, but it's similar in idea. It's just Google putting their branding on it so it's more apparent.

Google TV is a just a modified interface. The OS is still Android TV.
The main difference between Android TV & Google TV is "recommendations". Android TV homescreen only shows you the apps & channels, while Google TV is more interested in showing you what's available to stream, rent or buy.
Google TV might just be Android TV with ads.
And it might be based on ChromeOS (Linux) (i think)
The difference between Google TV and Android TV is just the launcher because underneath lies the same operating system, of course Google is putting more effort in the Google TV one because it is supposed to replace the Android TV one, it was supposed to replace it in two years since it was launched back in 2020 but here we are still with both laying around.
