Wi-fi help

by firvulag359

Hey guys,

I have a Sony XE9005 and use wi-fi to connect to the internet. I'm with Virgin Broadband and until recently it was 100 meg connection. My wi-fi speed tests matched this but I upgraded to 500 meg connection but my TV's wi-fi has only gone up to 160 megs. My other wifi connected devices such as my smart phone have around 400 meg connection so I have no idea why my TV speed hasn't gone up a lot more?

Any ideas to improve my speed? I've already tried turning off 2.4 Mhz on my router but that hasn't really done anything.

Suggestions would be welcome :)

Most probably your Sony TV doesn't have MIMO 2x2 WiFi antennas (more common in phones), so it's limited to around 200 Mbps in practice.

If you want to improve the speed buy a Gigabit Ethernet USB adapter and connect it wired.

Edit: So, that's not the reason! Apparently the WiFi adapter in that model is connected to a USB 2.0 port internally, hence the speed limit. Looks like you won't get more via WiFi in that TV: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/android-tv/real-wifi-ac-throughput-on-kd-55xe9005/td-p/2430702

Why would you need faster than that on your television?
