Just wondering if this could be done. I'm assuming it would work more or less like an Android phone. If so, what folder would I drop it in?

There are tons of ways to do it.
I find the best way for me is anydesk or rustdesk.
I transfer the files, select the folder that they go to, and can install them and a lot more if I want all from the computer.
EDIT - With some androidTV/GoogleTV devices, you might have to enable some options for anydesk/rustdesk in accessibility to use other functions, but you should always be able to transfer files very easily.
Try this https://adbappcontrol.com/en/ .I'm using extended (paid) version to manage (install/uninstall, enable/disable, sideload) apps to my Android TV and it's working so far great 👍🏻
I just use ADB command line that's part of android sdk, it's free
On my Mac, I have done this using an old program called Handshaker. Sometimes it fails to connect so I interchange it with another program called MacDroid.
I just drop things in the downloads folder found in storage/emulated
I ended up just using X-plore and giving it access to shared folders on my computers. You still need to find the APK and install it, after copying it to your Android TV box, while with X-plore you can just install it from the shared folder on your computer.
scrcpy. developer options have to be enabled, as well as "USB debugging" though you'll be connecting wirelessly anyway. once mirrored, you can just drop apks to the window and the program will install them automatically. if you drop files, they will appear on download folder
Tailscale
