Giving up on FireTV devices - homebrew Android tv options?

by jerrylovesalice2014

As you may know, Amazon has recently gone to war against custom launchers for their FireTV line of products. These custom launchers are literally the only redeeming feature of FireTV, without them the products are laggy pieces of trash.

So I am hoping y'all can give me some direction toward what options are available for homebrew build android tv box that can run Kodi/Netflix/Prime Video/YouTube ?

I guess Raspberry Pi 4 would be the go-to hardware, but my experience with them has been they are better used as servers and not media centers (coming from RPi3).

I just setup a 3rd gen fire stick yesterday that I bought 4 months ago. I installed TWRP so that I could root if needed but then Amazon pushed an update that erased TWRP and my ADB access.

Even though there's an enable ADB debugging option, its impossible to connect, says no permission.
