Cheaper TV box that could downgrade Netflix DD+ to DD or dts through optical cable to my receiver?

by Rhubarb-Alternative

So i dont have a smart tv and my tv cant output audio either

My receiver wont accept HDMI inputs, only spdif/optical

So i need a tv box that have a spdif/optical output, it will go like this:

Tv box > Hdmi > television (for image)

Tv box > optical > receiver ( for sound)

Problem is Netflix have DD+ audio, so i would need something that could downgrade DD+ to DD before going through the cable, maybe the TV box itself could do it

What is the cheaper way to do this?

Your TV may be able to do this via optical out. Box HDMI --> TV. TV toslink --> Receiver. I know Samsung TVs can.

i have that exact setup you're talking about with my old mibox and it works. the mibox is so old now that i can't recommend it though.

So far only the Mecool KM2 Plus, because it sports the amlogic variant with the letter B in the SoC (S905X4-B).

Old boxes like the Mi Box and Mi Box S can also do the conversion when the SPDIF option is selected but I ignore if they will continue doing the same if they ever get updated from Android 9 to a higher version.

Onn 4k tv box from Walmart. Optical would have to come out from the TV into the reciever and you'll get dolby digital. There's also an option to manually turn off dolby digital plus in the settings.

Optical doesn't support DD+. It doesn't have enough bandwidth.

Not many, if any, boxes will transcode DD+ to DD. And if they do, it won't be the cheaper ones.

You really need a newer receiver than trying to do all this conversion.

Something like the shARC ( https://www.thenaudio.com/product/sharc-v2-8k-earc-audio-processor/ ) might work, but again, not cheap.

Just get a fire stick and an HDMI audio extractor https://a.co/d/cQ0KXFf

Fire sticks can convert DD+ to DD. So can Apple TV and shield I believe if you want to spend more for a better experience.

firestick does, apple tv too but not cheap. google tv chromecast does too with some tweaking.
